i think it's very likely...
any moment now the price of bacon is gonna go up, there's gonna be a run on thermal undergarments from hell, and the sound of apocalyptic hooves will be heard approaching.
they said Obama would be bring unity, would bridge divides.
well, it's happened. i agree with bill o'reilly. excuse me, i have to lie down for a moment.
as we wait for the end of the world which is now so clearly and inevitably nigh, i've been finding myself prompted associatively to hum this 80s kids theme tune while reading news from America...
whilst folding laundry this morning, i went so far as to consider rewriting the lyrics for the purposes of my own amusement, but then realised there's actually no need for anything more than the most minor of adjustments:
all that's required is the addition of an 's', (not necessary if you are only serenading Orly Taitz) and intend the meaning of "lovely" to signify, you're so tin foil hat crazy, it's wonderful!, and job done. it's a tribute to a movement right there...
Berthas, lovely Berthas,
You are a lovely machine!
And anyone who works with you,
Will know just what I mean!
Woh!
Berthas, lovely Berthas,
Sometimes I think you're a dream!
And when we work out what you have to do,
You can always churn the goods out,
Always churn the goods out,
We can depend upon you!
Clicking the day, flashing the night,
Your computer is shining brightly,
Some people say you've a mind of your own,
And I think that's very likely.... likely!
Woh!
Berthas, lovely Berthas,
Sometimes I think you're a dream!
When we work out what you have to do,
You can always churn the goods out,
Always churn the goods out,
We can depend upon you!
Birthers. bringing a whole new conspiratorial twist to the satirist's line, "you couldn't make this stuff up."
well evidently, someone is.
thanks for the entertainment, America. i think of this movement as a kind of balancing act - kind of like Agent Smith vs Neo in The Matrix: the moment you got The One, this was inevitable.

keep paying attention/mess with some heads
i sent in this scoop from a free local newspaper here in Dublin southside.
::
the embers of Pyro-Theology at gb09 are glowing brightly. *much* work to be done but my confidence that we can pull together a worthwhile offering is gaining.
i can't/won't give any details away but i think this could be an engaging gathering.
(time tbc/friday evening/Centaur. keep the date.)
NOTE: our friends in Moot helped created a "protest" for our Fundamentalism gathering a couple of years back - brilliantly led by the Father. it was integral to setting the mood and theology for the night.
money quote (from someone in the queue, who took the Father's iain paisley-esque hell, fire and brimstone trickster protest against ikon to be the real deal):
i can't say anything about the plans for this year, but if you're gonna be on site and are available to lend a hand in the 30 mins before the event and possibly during it, let me know how i can contact you by direct mail. we may need some extra hands for this year's evanDalistic infiltrating. please note, any info you are given as a result, you are asked to keep to yourself.
right, i am running massively behind this morning and am meant to be travelling to Belfast. better get my ass firmly in gear.

secret love
i have an online news alert set for the South West USA and was shocked to see the reports of fires in Oklahoma and Texas. yet another sobering reminder of the power of nature and the fragility of human life in its path...
my eye was caught by several place names - Wichita, Amarillo, Choctaw...
the Choctaw Ridge in this song is, as far as i know, in the Mississippi delta, but no matter - the report got me to remembering a car journey, possibly through France, when i was about 9, in which i got into country music thanks to a mixtape my dad had playing on the car stereo. it was this song that did it.
it's been a couple of years now since i (port fueled) sang this at our (much missed) sessions in the kitchen (sometimes at the cottage or at Pádraig's)... it remains for me one of the most haunting songs ever penned. and i think it always will.
