they're the best i've ever known

. . .just had to add these little nuggets from Lighthousekeeping by Jeanette Winterson, which i'm reading for a new book group that's been set up by a work colleague:

What kind of story, child?
A story with a happy ending.
There's no such thing in the world.
As a happy ending?
As an ending.

. . .if you tell yourself like a story, it doesn't seem so bad.

,which just might be the best justification i've found yet for having this bizarre journal known as a blog.

    i have it. and i think i read it. but at least 7 years ago now. must return to it as i remember very little of it, except a recolection that it was good.

    she has an exceptional turn of phrase.
