Suspended Like Scales Pt 2

Over the past week people have been taking bits down and reading them and then pinning them back up in different places, so that the collages are forever changing. i am convinced some elements have been removed and take away, and a couple of folks saw fit to use the collages as notice boards and put up adverts, which has been an interesting experience. (Sigmund had a field day with that!)

Rupture

the centre of this polar opposite piece is a literal rupture. i cut into the 'canvas' and pulled it apart to create a wound.
behind this rather bloody vulvic shaped gash is a portrait of me on my wedding day which, in a moment of self-inflicted violence last year, i de-faced with broken glass from its smashed frame. one doesn't need a therapist to work out what was going on in that moment of rupture. better a photograph than myself, that's for sure. this tryptic portrait hung in the hall of the cottage and as i felt the world collapse i could no longer bare to face my own joy. it had become a mocking grin.

as with Rapture the 'canvas' is painted, and drawn and written on. dark stuff i admit...

  1. this looks really good. where is it? (sorry i have maybe not been paying attention) would love to see the whole thing. it's not in common grounds is it? i was in there the other night but could see only jayne's (wonderful) paintings.

  2. hey mister t

yes - 'tis as common grounds :0) in the back room. there's a sign by the dividing doors that says speak to staff if you wanna go in and spend time with it anytime the doors are closed. ie. just say, "hi, i'm going into the back room to spend time with the installation." :0) in the unlikely event of any hassle should the door need to be unlocked, confidently tell them "stephen says its cool to let folks in". assuming of course no group has hired the room at the time.

hope you enjoy the experience. there's an audio element you can use if you wish - MP3 player and headfonz are there in the back room.

and yes jayne's paintings are indeed wonderful.
i am fortunate enough to have got a really beautiful smaller piece from the same series as a gift from the gal herself last christmas. one talented artist is our jayne-y. and generous with it. :0)

  5. Thanks for posting and sharing this, I waited till I had time to read and look properly.
Beautiful and painful - it looks good. I cried ~ for something inside of me (not a negative response x)
If I lived anywhere near I'd come and see it in it's entirety.

    Cheers,
